Piano Tuition With Gloria Pennyfather M.A

I am Gloria Pennyfather. I am both a musician and academic, an alumnae of the Guildhall School of music, where I studied the piano, and having a master’s degree from Ruskin College, Oxford. I have been playing the piano since I was four years old and teaching the piano for more than 25 years.

My passion is the piano and teaching my instrument. I teach students from the age of six years with no upper age limit. Indeed, about a third of my practice is made up of adults passed the age of retirement. I welcome all ages, abilities and genres, because although I am classically trained I play various styles of jazz and am keen to introduce my students to different types of music. Versatility is my approach to imparting and encouraging my art.

I give a free introductory lesson to new comers, allowing me and the new prospective student, to discover what are their expectations and abilities. I can then arrange an individual programme to suit their needs with the express purpose of giving them encouragement by seeing their progress advance significantly in a short time. Most students make significant strides in as little as one year.

I cater for all approaches to learning, either for those who want it for self-entertainment or for preparation for entry to conservatoires, colleges or university. I understand the requirements of students who are aspiring to apply for music bursaries at specialist school, and I have a high success rate of student attainment.

I like to showcase my students with a local concert, to entertain and demonstrate their progress between each years’ performance. It also shows to new comers what can be achieved, so hopefully it will be an encouragement.

There is no requirement to take examinations. For those who are keen I am happy to teach most syllabi and boards of examiners, however, I concentrate mainly on the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall commonly known as TRINITY. These give a slightly different approach to the examination process but both have the status for carrying UCAS points for those requiring them when applying to university or college.

My emphasis is on success. For me, however, success is a student realising their potential in whatever form it may manifest itself.

Whether you are a parent wanting your young person to widen their talents or a mature student taking up a skill in later life, why not drop me an e-mail or give me a call, I am always happy to chat about your aspirations.

In the current climate Lessons are available through Skype only.
