Although Sussex is visibly divided into East and West Sussex, the county has a long history dating back to Saxon times as the Kingdom of Sussex. Traditionally an area of strong local identity, the division goes back as far as the 12th century, and the areas are two different administrative counties.
As well as miles of beautiful coastline from Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Seaford, Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis, Sussex has tourist sites galore meaning that wherever in Sussex you are, there are plenty of ways to spend the holidays and make the most of the British countryside, in fair weather or foul. Bodiam Castle, Near Robertsbridge A beautiful National Trust site, the castle was built in 1385, and is an excellent example of its type, as the exterior is virtually complete.
